Seriously, does any other mouse out there have as cool a name? This is one of my all-time favourite mouses (sorry, the plural of ‘computer mouse’ is ‘computer mouses’, not ‘computer mice’).
Featuring a 20,000 DPI sensor, it’s also capable of keeping pace with the fastest of mouse swipes – up to 54 feet per second (650IPS, or ‘inches per second’). Also – and this is a feature I particularly love – it uses optical, instead of mechanical, switches. So instead of you pressing a button which completes a circuit, the button instead breaks a beam of infrared light. This means no debouncing issues – no unintended clicks or mechanical chatter – and much higher durability. Given that mechanical switch failure was what killed my last two mouses, this is a feature I’m rather keen on.
So how does it play? Well, if you’ve ever used the standard DeathAdder, you pretty well know what to expect. It’s light, it’s fast, and very easy to use. It’s a bit broader than the likes of the Logitech G502 Hero (my other favourite mouse), and favours a more relaxed grip where the palm of the hand just rests at the very back of the mouse. Designed for right-handers, there are also two buttons located on the side which can be programmed via Razer’s software. While two extra buttons probably won’t sell it to those who love having a dozen extra buttons in reach of their thumb, for most games these work just fine. (I always use these buttons to replace my middle-mouse click, as it makes it so much easier and faster to get to, and means you can keep your other fingers over left and right click.)
All up, another brilliant gaming product from Razer. If you’re in the market for a new gaming mouse, this is definitely worth considering. ■
